This intricately carved titanium ring has 36 inlays of broken porcelain pieces meticulously stitched together with delicate gold in accordance with the aesthetic of kintsugi. The process begins with a vintage porcelain plate, which I mercilessly smash on the shop floor. From there it only gets more difficult as I first cut the shards into useful strips with a dremel and diamond cutting wheel. Each of these pieces needs to be thinned out to 1mm or less. Then I shape the pieces to fit the titanium voids, deliberately leaving cracks and voids to be filled with gold amalgam, which also holds the porcelain in place. This all needs to be done such that there is a 1mm gap above the inlay to accommodate the resin finish that protects and waterproofs the final creation. Anyway, its hard.

Kintsugi is a Japanese art form that embraces the beauty in imperfection. Rather than discarding broken pottery or porcelain, kintsugi artisans repair them with a special lacquer mixed with gold or silver, emphasizing the cracks and imperfections. This practice is rooted in the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which celebrates the beauty in transience, imperfection, and asymmetry.

By highlighting the imperfections of the broken pottery, kintsugi artists are not only repairing the object, but also creating something new and beautiful out of something that was once considered flawed. This approach to repair is also seen as a metaphor for life and personal growth, as it encourages individuals to embrace their flaws and use them as opportunities for growth and transformation.

This white ceramic ring with an inlay of broken porcelain pieces stitched together with gold perfectly embodies the kintsugi philosophy. It serves as a reminder that imperfection can be beautiful, and that even broken objects can be transformed into something new and precious. By wearing this ring, you not only showcase your unique style, but also demonstrate a deep appreciation for the philosophy behind kintsugi. Wear it as a statement piece on its own or pair it with other rings for a personalized and eclectic look. This ring is perfect for those who appreciate the beauty in imperfection and want to add a unique and meaningful piece to their collection.

This ring is flanked by 6al-4v grade 5 titanium, preferred among jewelers.

Comfort fit.

I highly recommend going to a jewelry counter to determine your size, even if you already know your size. "Do it yourself" ring sizing methods (string, etc.) should absolutely not be trusted. Be sure to be measured using the width you plan to order.

NOTE ON WIDTH:

This design is available in 8mm only.

****PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE 100% SURE OF YOUR SIZE BEFORE ORDERING *****

Titanium and ceramic rings cannot be resized at all! Every ring is made to the exact size provided. An error in sizing will necessitate a completely new ring. Because of the insane amount of work that goes into creating this highly custom ring, returns or exchanges will not be possible.

Like my line of wooden rings, each ring is given multiple coats of a hybrid epoxy finish, which is completely water-proof and soap proof. This protective coating is sanded up to 12,000 grit for an unbelievable, glass-like finish.

All rings ship via USPS Priority (or Priority International) Small Flat Rate Box. If you are outside the US and Canada, your only shipping option is Global Express. Please read below for details. Insurance is mandatory for this ring, and included in the shipping charge. You pay what I pay for shipping, nothing more.

For customers outside the US:

Due to changes in USPS policy, international packages sent to countries other than Canada can no longer be tracked past the US border. Insurance claims are also not possible. Due to this change and for your protection, international customers outside of Canada will be required to pay for USPS Global Express shipping ($44.95), which in addition to guaranteeing arrival within 3-5 business days (excepting intervention from your country’s customs department), also can be tracked and insured. I wish I could offer a more economical solution, but cheaper options are too risky.

International customers are responsible for all fees associated with shipping to their respective countries. Orders that are shipped to countries outside of the United States may be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees levied by the destination country. The recipient of an international shipment may be subject to such import taxes, customs duties and fees, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by the recipient; I have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for further information. When customs clearance procedures are required, it can cause delays beyond the original delivery estimates. It is against the law and I will not mark an item as a "gift" to avoid any fees.
