The Mammoth Ivory in this ring is fashioned from tooth (an enormous molar, in fact), which is the most colorful, figured, and prized portion of mammoth ivory. A portion of the source material is pictured in this listing. Unlike the mammoth tusk offerings in my store, the tooth is hard to work with. Each piece inlaid in this ring is hand-shaped with diamond bits, and carefully assembled around the ring. Taking inspiration from kintsugi, the centuries-old Japanese method of repairing pottery, the pieces are unified with a unique, homebrew 23k gold and resin amalgam.

The metal is Tungsten Carbide. Not all Tungsten Carbide rings are the same! Tungsten and Carbon are elements that would naturally be a powder. They are combined at very high temperatures with binders to make an incredibly dense, nearly indestructible metal. The choice and quality of these extra elements are what sets this top quality, American made ring apart from its mass-produced-in-China counterparts. While it is possible to shatter a WedgeWood Tungsten Ring, it is not easy.

Like all tungsten carbide rings that have been coated to appear to be another color (gold tungsten, black tungsten, etc.) you should be aware that the coating does not share the ultrahard characteristics of the tungsten carbide metal itself. Please read this blog post so you understand what coated tungsten is!

Sizing

I highly recommend going to a jewelry counter to determine your size, even if you already know your size. "Do it yourself" ring sizing methods (string, etc.) should absolutely not be trusted. Be sure to be measured using the width you plan to order.

NOTE ON WIDTH:

Available in 4 mm, 6 mm, 8 mm total width

2 mm groove width total ring width 4 mm

4 mm groove width total ring width 6 mm

5 mm groove width total ring width 8 mm

Tungsten Carbide rings cannot be resized at all! Every ring is made to the exact size provided. An error in sizing will necessitate a completely new ring. Refunds and exchanges will not be possible.

Each ring is given multiple coats of a hybrid epoxy finish, which is completely water-proof and soap proof. This protective coating is sanded up to 12,000 grit for an unbelievable, glass-like finish.
